DREWCAM86 I recently owned this program, but got a new hard-drive installed because mine wasn't functioning properly. Apple said it wasn't my fault, and that they have had this issue quite a few times with my particular model. But, now I don't have this program, and I use it quite often, as I have 2 different ipods that I transfer songs between. I currently have a new bank account, and do not know the numbers of the previous one used, but is it possible to re-download it? or do I have to buy it all over again.. (Version 1.4.1)

HMURCHISON Pure hyperbole. Trademarks must be defended or they become invalid. This isn't the only company that had to rename itself, thusly removing "iPod" from their name (remember the iPod lounge? ). To equate enforcing a trademark with thuggery is misguided but the worst part was blatant lie you promulgate about Apple Records vs Apple Inc. Your "Brand" only covers a certain segment. Thus Apple owns "Apple" within the computing realm and Apple Records owns "Apple" within the recording industry. Apple Records tried to sue Apple Inc multiple times claiming that adding musical chimes (Sosumi and more) and running a music store infringed upon their trademark. It was a weak argument but they were free to try and with the last legal battle Apple Inc's lawyers trounced Apple Records lawyers. Game over. Apple Inc has never done anything to harm Apple Records so there's really no victim here. Back on topic. I'm glad this app gives me a bit more flexbility in how I manage my music. (Version 1.4.1)

COVERYOURHEART If you've not yet decided whether to buy iPodRip or if you're having trouble deciding between different iPod-to-Mac software, let me assure you iPodRip is a very well made product. It's easy and intuitive to use, and its shortcomings are few. I would love to see this software support photo recovery and some version of the 'diff' function to just import the songs I'm missing. While this application is not feature rich, I believe it is better for it. It gets the job done, and it does it well. To the developer: Why was the Family Pack box checked by default when I went to check out? It shouldn't be. (Version 1.2.6)

SYLVAPOLUPOSA Tried this software and well ... it just don't cut it in any way. iPod ripping is buggy (crashed several times when importing) AND resulted in a few corrupted files. There is definitely something wrong with the file handling code. iPhone ripping is also a pain in the *ss. In fact it uses a trick and not actually ripping it directly from your iPhone. (only works when iTunes is installed and the settings of iTunes are correct). Tried iPodRip on 3 macs and crashes occurs on all of them (mainly when importing files). It also seems to hang on some point and then continues. iPodRip is .... a rip ... even when this was given free I would not use it. (Version 1.2.5)

I have had exactly the same problems as others have reported. iPodRip (that I paid for) comes up with "No songs found to display" upon launching, which is all the more annoying in that iTunes sees them just fine. I too emailed support but haven't heard from them yet. I just upgraded to the newest version of iTunes and applied the 1.1.2 upgrade to my second gen. JBASOM Read many reviews online of various programs and decided to try this one out (very reluctantly). The results were so good that I felt compelled to post my first ever user review online. In less than three hours, this program restored my entire ipod contents (1644 songs, 4.8 GB of music) to my Power Book G4 running system 10.4.7 and iTunes 6.0. All playlists and songs appear to be completely intact. This just saved me an unbelievable amount of work to reimport all my CD's and reorganize them. My computer crashed and I had to start over from scratch. I did not have a backup of my iTunes library or playlists. I blame Apple for not having a way to restore from ipod back to Mac because these things can happen. Thank goodness for this program. I was skeptical from some of the reviews I read, but I tried it and it worked great for me! One tip: try dragging one playlist from ipod to itunes first to be sure it works properly, then do the complete ipod restore if that's what you need. (Version 3.9)

ALUAKZ Well... at the beginning it looked fine. However, when compared the songs that I hace on my iPod with the songs displayed in iPodRip, the list was uncomplete. iPodRip just ate about 5% of the songs, and even after I restarted the program and reconnected my iPod it was the same thing. So... the program is very very average and there are much better alternatives - Pod2Go (also shareware) and iPodDisk (freeware), for example. (Version 3.9)

TLAF_MAT ALUAKZ, we would love to hear from you regarding the incomplete importing of songs. There is a feedback form on our website which you can use here: http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/feedback iPodRip doesn't however "eat" or delete any songs as they are still on your iPod so this is just a matter of iPodRip not reading your database correctly. Pod2Go doesn't do what iPodRip does, it's more of an aggregator of topics for your iPod. (Version 3.9)

CHRIS I wiped out my entire iTunes library -- 10,154 songs -- from the external hard drive I was storing it on, due to a bonehead mistake. iPodRip managed to transfer all but 91 of those 10,154 songs from my iPod onto my new iMac G5, and kept all the original metadata / song ratings / play counts intact! Genius. It was also completely stable and ran smoothly and (reasonably) quickly -- the whole process took about nine hours but hey, that's a lot of songs. (For what it's worth, the equipment involved: 60GB 4th gen color iPod, iTunes 5, Mac OS X 10.4.2, 2GHz iMac G5 w/ 512MB RAM, Firewire connection.) Totally recommended, and I may cough up the shareware price just to keep it around. (Version 3.8.3)

BRETT WALKER This program has a lot of potential, and is packed with features compared to the other ipod rippers out there. The interface is fairly well thought out, and is not just a window and a couple of buttons like many other similar applications. The UI is very nice. While I've never been a fan of the brushed steel motif (I think it goes against Apple's original usability guidelines), it is consistent with the OS, and this app does a good job. Everything is well laid-out, and there's a lot of detail here, but it is not cluttered. However, and here is its real downfall, it is not a very stable application. Every time I've used it to transfer songs to my iTunes Library, it crashes. (OS 10.4.2, iTunes 4.9) I don't think it likes to copy more than a few hundred songs at a time, as it seems to be more stable in that instance. Of course, every time it crashes reduces my trial period. One other thing I don't like about the program is that the UI feedback when you copy could be better. Many times it seems like the progress bar isn't moving at all, and you aren't sure if it has frozen or not. It would be useful to provide more granular information about the copying progress. So, although iPodRip is definitely the most feature-packed and usable of the ipod ripping applications out there, frankly I would not spend money to purchase this product until it becomes less crash-prone. If this product were stable, it would be worth the $15 shareware fee the author requests. But right now I want something that doesn't blow up when I ask it to perform its main function. These guys are BRILLIANT, the application meets all the ease of use criteria an Mac user expects. Hats off to the iPodRip team and more importantly they can have some of my money too!! Thanks Big Time. (Version 3.7.1)

CAROLINE MITCHELL Installed IpodRip onto ibook running OS10.3 to 'restore' all music from my Ipod after the Apple computer authorized dealer 'accidentally' clean- installed the Ibook hard drive thus destroying my Itunes collection. ipodRip would not 'reload' all tunes from Ipod into Itunes, so i used the method of reloading into a new file and folder on the hard drive. Then I manually copied all this music into the itunes library. Though the copy appeared to work ( that is all names in the hard drive file are now also appearing in the itunes library) Unfortunately the Itunes library does not have the album/artist/ info. Any suggestions ? (Version 3.6)

ANONYMOUS Although there are other programs that allow you to rip songs from your iPod, I highly recommend this one. First, customer support is excellent. I wrote to the developer about a feature I wanted (playing iPod songs from the menu bar), and he wrote back almost immediately. He also continued with needed correspondences, and he put the requested feature back into the software. I have also found the program to be stable on my system (I used 10.3.5 and a host of shareware programs.) The price is also very reasonable. At the least, give this program a try. (Version 3.6)

CODEPOET I resized the "Compare iPod to iTunes" window and the UI elements went all over the place. The author apparently doesn't resize windows. I hit Sync Meta Data and after taking my computer over for about 45 seconds and then starting iTunes and such it started to work. I was thinking "Oh, ok, this works" and cancelled it to look around some more. After the window closed the CPU usage still spiked. The thread was never cancelled when I hit the button. I had to quit to make it go away. Alas, it looks like I'll stick with PodWorks. Shame, because if the features worked as advertised this would be the better deal. I only wish the program was as well-designed as the website and icon. (Version 3.3.1)

ANONYMOUS Simply does not work. All I want to do it update my iTunes library with all the playlists and songs on my iPod, without lots of duplicates. That's what "SmartSync" says it does--but it does nothing of the sort. Clicking the "SmartSync" button brings up a window which says "allows you to intelligently remove songs from your iPod and places them in iTunes." Uhh, no, I don't want to remove songs from my iPod. Nor do I want to do it one playlist at a time. When I try one playlist, if the files exist, there are many duplicates created. The "Help" button here is useless, because it just tries to launch Classic and then crashes. Not exactly helpful. Does PodWorks do this correctly? (Version 3.1.5)

ANONYMOUS Advertised as $9 on macupdate... but $10 on their website. It goes without saying that transfering all the music from an iPod to iTunes is very simple. So if that is all you are looking to do then just type this into the terminal (filling in your ipod and user account name where specified): cp "//volumes/your-iPods-name/iPod_control/music/" "cp -d -r "//volumes/your-iPods-name/iPod_control/music" "//Volumes/Macintosh HD/Users/your-user-name/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/" cp means copy -d specifies directory -r tells it to do it recursive. the first part of the string specfies the files to be copied the sencond part specifies where to copy them to. you can also do this but graphically by viewing hidden files. search the web, its a piece of cake to turn hidden files on... can be done with applescripts or free programs like fugu. of course if you want to play off ipod then this is a nice program... but make sure itunes doesnt try to update your ipod and erase your music. note to developers: i saw that methapod was copying you folks. i have a copy of their program... or rather your program with their interface. if youd like a copy to study (to improve the interface or wage a legal war) I would be happy to furnish it to you. MICHAEL MCDANIEL Hmmmm, you know I find your laying out of the what I assume to be UNix commands since the command lines you list are to be placed in terminal, please correct me if I am wrong, very interesting for a few reasons. I am and am more than proud to say computerly-challenged and I refuse to make time to learn command lines and what not that I have no time for in my more than too busy schedule, but I am more than happy to pay a reasonable price for simple to use applications which will perform these tasks, hell, I will even give Apple, Inc., the ever-more nasty company it is becoming, the money for such programs. In fact, if my commons sense is worth a damn, then the ability of my machine here already possesses the means to accomplish what should have been a part of iPod's software in the first place. So, why should we not expect Apple to grant us this right ? I can only surmise given their recent profit above consumer satisfaction attitude, that they simply choose to continue to chinch us. Anyway, I am not going to download this product at any price, at least not at the moment, but what is yours or anyone reading this comments opinion of Pod 2 Pod ? (Version 3.1.5)

JIM BISHOP WATCH OUT! I had lost the music off my hard drive and wanted to use this to "save" the labor of rerecording 16 Gigs of music by downloading from the iPod. If you are a bone head like me you can destroy the index in the iPod by making some mistake with iPodrip that I don't understand, and you are left with having to go through the entire process AFTER downloading this little gem. Be careful. It is not an obvious procedure. I have had a Mac since 1983, and this machine is a G4/933/OS 10.3.3. (Version 3.1)

ANONYMOUS iPodRip seems to be little more than an ugly clone of MenthaPod. The main difference between the two programs is that one is free and one costs you cash money. The smaller differences are that iPodRip has a few more features-- for instance functions like exporting playlists. In my opinion MethaPod is much better despite not having quite as many features. Perhaps some people would find the additional features useful, I however find them to be frivolous. I strongly recommend comparing the two before parting from you hard earned dough. fyi, methapod can be found at: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14576 (Version 3.1)

ANONYMOUS Ummmm Anonymous, you've got it backwards. MethaPod is an ugly copy of iPodRip. Lets look at the facts. # 1: In the applications bundle, the icon file is named iPodRip. hmmmmm interesting. # 2: If you open up pbdevelopment.plist in the MethaPod's application bundle you will find a string containing the words The Little App Factory (a.k.a. the makers of iPodRip). # 3: You will find very similar aspects in Info.plist. Stuff pertaining to iPodRip 2. # 4: Try checking for updates with Little Snitch running. You will be asked to give iPodRip permission to connect to the server. But hey, I'm sure this is all simply coincidence. (Version 3.1)

C. CARINO Nice stuff. It's good to see a iPod/iTunes transfer app actually use an interface similar to iTunes. It makes moving the playlists easy and intuitive. Drag-n-Drop is always the best way to go. It's also incredibly fast when transferring the files and their attributes. I know firewire is inherently fast, but other similar programs have seemed dead slow at times. The one dark spot is stability, it did crash a handful of times, eating up my trial uses. Ease of use is great for those who want simplicity and the feature set is great enough for the tweakers out there. Overall, a very pleasent experience. Bravo (Version 2.5.2)

ADAM I would reccomend not spending any money on programs to move files from your iPod to your Mac. I simply use Tinkertool, which is a great program that allows you to customize the look of your desktop. Using Tinkertools, go to Finder and select "Show Hidden Files" and relaunch the finder. Then, when you open your iPod window on your computer, all of your files will show up in folders labled "F0x". Simply import to iTunes and enjoy! (Version 2.5.1)

ANONYMOUS Sure you can happily do that, by providing the functionality to a user to easily import their songs with the click of a button is a little better than having them wade through cryptic folder names (you negleted to tell them the hierachy to the F00, F01, F02, etc folders). That method also does not retain playlists, play count, and song rating. It does not allow you to find songs easily, find songs that are misnamed, preview songs easily or any of the other features. Also, importing some file types (notably .wav) via your method will not retain any metadata. iPodRip provides that for you. The choice is the users, and we like choice personally. (Version 2.5.1)

IPodRip let's me play my songs right off of my iPod, and it has an interface very similar to iTunes, so it's easy to use. One problem I've noticed is that playing the music in the background when using other processor intensive programs causes the songs to skip pretty often. Also I think one feature that's missing is the ability to minimize the window to just show the controls and what song is playing (like iTunes). (Version 2.4.3)

GEORGE NARROWAY This is a healthy rival for the number 1 iPod-ripper out of all the ones I have sampled. It worked flawlessly in all modes and I have nothing bad to say about it at all!. Full marks +1 (101/100)! (Version 1.0b)

YAGGA YAO this app is darn good. very simple and very effective. the only problem is that songs aren't categorized, so if you want to find a specific track to transfer from a huge library, you might end up sitting for while looking for it. but you can transfer all the songs at once. in any case, this is so far the best ipod transfer app i've come across.
