MISHA Because comments like yours have the word AppFresh (which we don't list at MU) so our search picks it up from that. If you read prior comments, what you've mentioned has been discussed at length in the past. (Version 5.0.4)

RUBAIYAT Odd considering who the developer is that there is no method of feedback nor a forum for discussion of the software. 1. This crashes regularly on scanning. It will finally complete the scan after a couple of attempts. 2. The keyboard shortcut shown for Menu > Updates > Download Update [shift cmd D], in fact reveals the original software in Finder and does not DL. 3. There is no right mouse click contextual menu item for the above. 4. Can not multiple select items in Update list 5. There are inaccuracies in DLs with the wrong version DLed contrary to what is listed 1. Like to be able to DL all updates in one go without installing 2. Like contextual menu option for DL and not install 3. Like to flag "Need to pay" updates to avoid installing an unregistered version 4. Like a Feedback menu option in the Application menu. 5. Like a version tag on DLs (not all developers are this organised). (Version 5.0.4)

Where a DL is linked through an intermediary Web page which auto DLs, the update does not get saved to the nominated MacUpdate folder but to the default DL folder in Safari. I understand why this happens but wonder if programming can fix this. I got caught a couple of times wondering why the DL was not where it was supposed to be and reDLed the files. (Version 5.0.4)

DP8 Thank you for your feedback - the methods provided for feedback include these forums, as well as the Feedback menu option in the MacUpdate Desktop application itself. You may also contact us at any time at desktop@macupdate.com. You can download all updates without installing but deselecting the "auto install" option in the preferences. If you try to install an update that is a "paid" update, you will be warned before the download begins. There is a Feedback menu option available. Your other feedback items have been noted and will be considered for inclusion in a future version, thanks!

FATCAT Watchlist in my Macupdate Desktop application shows only 15 apps. Watchlist on wesite has 3 times as many. Am I doing something wrong? (Version 5.0.4)

DP8 Check to see if you have "Only scan recently used Applications" checked in your preferences - when this option is enabled, only "recent apps" Watch List items are matched.

FATCAT That fixed it, thank you... (Version 5.0.4)

DP8 Thanks for the feedback. We are aware of an issue with a couple of apps that have duplicate names which can be affected this way when we list one of the apps but not the other. We are working to resolve this issue.

NEGRITUDE 1. Program kept crashing while trying to scan apps under 10.5.8 PPC. This was in a clean admin account. 2. Program would not accept the password that was valid on the MU site. I use random passwords of varying lengths with special characters. The MU site has no problem with these passwords. The MUD program chokes on them. 3. Program fills the system log with lots of this garbage: 4/28/10 9:39:35 PM MacUpdate Desktop[958] MacUpdate Desktop(958,0xf0103000) malloc: free_garbage: garbage ptr = 0x19b1c30, has non-zero refcount = 1 4/28/10 9:39:40 PM MacUpdate Desktop[958] MacUpdate Desktop(958,0xf0103000) malloc: *** error for object 0x11e1ae50: pointer being freed was not allocated 4/28/10 9:39:40 PM MacUpdate Desktop[958] MacUpdate Desktop(958,0xf0103000) malloc: *** error for object 0x13e04770: pointer being freed was not allocated 4/28/10 9:39:35 PM [0x0-0x64064].com.macupdate.desktop5[958] MacUpdate Desktop(958,0xf0103000) malloc: free_garbage: garbage ptr = 0x19b1c30, has non-zero refcount = 1 4/28/10 9:39:40 PM [0x0-0x64064].com.macupdate.desktop5[958] MacUpdate Desktop(958,0xf0103000) malloc: *** error for object 0x11e1ae50: pointer being freed was not allocated 4/28/10 9:39:40 PM [0x0-0x64064].com.macupdate.desktop5[958] MacUpdate Desktop(958,0xf0103000) malloc: *** error for object 0x13e04770: pointer being freed was not allocated (Version 5.0.4)

DP8 There is an issue with garbage collection on some 10.5 PPC systems which we have reported to Apple. The console log messages you are seeing are from the garbage collector reporting non-critical memory status while it is doing its thing. We are working on a work-around for the 10.5 PPC systems that are affected, but the issue is in Apple's code, and was fixed in 10.6. Certain characters were not allowed in passwords in version prior to 5.0.2. Your password will work fine in version 5.0.3 or later.
| Jun 18 2010 |
NEGRITUDE I was using 5.0.4 when the special characters were NOT accepted in the password. You still haven't fixed that. Try again. (Version 5.0.4)

Again your program missed this updates(like many others): Google Earth New Version: 5.1.3534.411 Pando -New Version: 2.5.0.14 NetShred X -New Version: 4.4.1 - you need to do something to fix this, or you will lose your customers. And make it automatic check for the new updates - it's 2010 already! With regards your long time(unfortunately for now - unsatisfied) customer. (Version 5.0.4)

DAVEBARNES I used VersionTracker Pro for years and never looked at anything else until this last year as CBS completely screwed up the product. Now that I have used MacUpdate Desktop for over 6 months, I can say that it is better than VT Pro ever was. I find the support to be quite good. Is MUD worth the money? Yes, it is. MUTANT Macupdate handles some things fine, but completely falls apart on others. It keeps wanting to overwrite my apps like Alfred, and mishandling other apps. I report all of them but never see a fix. You tell it to ignore certain apps, like Python and it never does, it keeps coming up time after time. It doesn't detect that some apps need updating, like Picasa. Overall, I'm not very satisfied with support. I've seen no updates to the software and frustrated with the bugs. (Version 5.0.4)

DP8 Please contact us so that we can understand more about what you mean "completely falls apart" and "mishandling" - desktop@macupdate.com. We have been a bit busy with our Spring Bundle and discounted membership offers, but are now almost up to date on addressing all bad match reports. We have not had any bug reports of the nature you are describing, so we want to make sure that we fully understand what you are experiencing - please include a screen shot of what you are experiencing with regard to Picasa and Python. As far as I know, you have not contacted us for support, so I am not sure how you can be unhappy with it - we work hard to support our users and address any any all issues. Version 5.0.4 was released in February, and we are working on the next update and will have it out as soon as it is ready. (Version 5.0.4)

MUTANT http://cl.ly/Nh9 This is an example of how mismatched the updates are running. Macupdate isn't picking up that there is a system update (the very latest security patch). I finally have it ignoring Alfred, but "fall apart" meant that it completely overwrote my Alfred app with another app of the same name listed in your directory, but the Alfred app (a quicksilver fork) isn't listed. I simply had trouble believing there wasn't more of a check to ensure the app was correct. MUD never ignores Python update.. EVER. keeps coming up. I haven't emailed in my issues, but I do report every bad match via the tool itself. by "falls apart" means that I can't rely on it completely. There are nearly 7 apps in Appfresh that need updating that I didn't even know about in MUD. MUD thinks I have the current version of Squeeze, when I'm only on v1, and I didn't "set version to current" this preference Picasa, which I manually updated, shows that 1.3.0xxx is the Current version. http://cl.ly/PJl Turns out it's matching Picasa Web Albums app, not Picasa -- again, I've submitted a bad match report. X11 reports 2.3.4 is the latest, when 2.5 is the latest for Snow Leopard. MUD shouldn't be matching it. In all, I guess I'm upset that MUD is supposed to be a final stop and it simply isn't. AppFresh, which you guys REFUSE to list actually compliments MUD, and fills all the holes. So yea, I use both, but other people might not know about the problems with MUD, hence my review. BNZ I got the MacUpdate Desktop for the lower price with the MU Promo Bundle. Actually, this is one of the apps i like most of the bundle. It's really useful in telling you how up-to-date your Mac applications are and in some cases even provides a one click update. I find that espcially useful for the widgets. So in summary: much more useful than I expected. It doesn't always work perfectly (for example, it replaced my Elgato Turbo.H264 HD app with the Elgato Turbo.264 app (without HD), but in many cases, it works pretty well. If you got it as well with the bundle, give it a try! (Version 5.0.4)

DP8 Thanks for the review! You aren't alone here- many of the bundle purchasers took advantage of our special membership offer, and we have received a lot of positive feedback - so thank you to everyone who signed up! The issue with Turbo.264 HD has been addressed- Elgato actually doesn't differentiate between the two apps very well, but I have updated the system to be able to correctly identify both. Please report any other problems to us so that we can address them as quickly as possible - either email desktop@macupdate.com (include screenshots), or use the "Bad Match Report" option.
