Kiwi comes with nine built-in themes, with more available online. Plus, Kiwi is extensible with an API for building themes from HTML and CSS. Powerful rules allow users to filter, mark, or highlight desired content or tweets. Kiwi also supports picture posting, url shortening, and keyboard shortcuts. MRGANDO  Kiwi is an amazing piece of software, for me it's the best desktop twitter client out there. The price is very good for what you get, and also constant updates. I sent an e-mail to the devs requesting a small feature and it was actually implemented in the next revision of updates.

Still I think it needs to support lists ( I don't use them actually , but a lot of people seems to be using them )

Thanks for this application.

WALRUSCP  Sorry for the double post here, but forgot to reply to the Oauth comment. From what Isaiah tells me, he is waiting on Twitter to finalize the updates to Oauth that are currently close to completion. Basically, he knows the updates are at hand and is waiting so he doesn't have to do the work twice. He has repeatedly said it is priority #1 and will implement as soon as the updates are released into the wild for developers.

WALRUSCP  Now that version 1.1.1 is out, I wanted to update my earlier review of Kiwi now that I have had a chance to really try the application out and engage/pester Isaiah, the developer.

Kiwi is on the fast track to giving Loren and atebits a real run for their money for best Mac Twitter application. A number of bugs have been worked out in a relatively short period of time, which speaks to the commitment and skill of the developer. Plus, having a solid partner in Elixir Graphics creating terrific themes and graphics for the application is a major plus.

As of right now, Kiwi is better than Tweetie. Hands down. Excepting the soon-to-be addressed Oauth issues (Twitter lists, proper app attribution for user posts, etc.), Kiwi has all the modern features power users expect from their application of choice. And I don't need to go again into the power features like rules, customizable lists, and themes. Oh, and if you didn't notice, they dropped the asking price $5 to a very reasonable $9.95. Sufficed to say, I was sold when they did that after teetering on the purchasing edge.

Overall, Kiwi is an application that is already a leading contender, and has shown me that it will rapidly improve while other big names like Twitterrific and Tweetie stagnate in development limbo. I highly recommend it, as it is only another release or two away from being a true five-star application.

TURKCHGO  Agreed. The app is awesome currently but missing one thing. Please take the OAuth plunge and it'll be the new king of the hill.

FISHSCALE  Nice review and good info about the dev. One mistype though, I have no idea what the old price was but I am sure you did not buy it because the price went up?!?

"Oh, and if you didn't notice, they dropped the asking price $5 to a very reasonable $9.95. Sufficed to say, I was sold when they did that after teetering on the purchasing edge."

From $5 to $10 is a price hike not a drop so clear that up and I think the review is well written.

It is hard to say that this app is better than tweetie or any other twitter app. Everyone has their favorite for some given reason, very rarely is there just one app in a field that blows the rest away. A feature comparison would be better imo but you did a good job justifying most of your reasoning with the dev's commitment and also the option for many themes and future updates to the app and themes. Anyhow good review, the price thing needs to be straightened out because if the price went up from $5 to $10 I definitely would be put off just because of the hike but I don't think that is the case, a mistype is likely the culprit of this confusion.

______

Note to macupdate - Would it be too hard to be able to compare apps? Maybe change the submission form so this feature could be added and we all can still give our opinions but see a true comparison between products if we choose? It will be more work for the dev when they submit an app but that's why this site is here, to give us, the end user different options and a voice...

WEBKARNAGE  I have really enjoyed Kiwi when using it and it is as pointed out beaten Tweetie at it's own game, however I'll have to wait for a few more features before it takes the place of Nambu full time. With Nambu I don't have to go to horrible sites like iFrog to see the images and I don't have to click on a shortened link to see which domain it will take me to. This avoids Digg links I don't want to go to etc.

It is the best looking Twitter app I've seen, as you can bend it to your will thanks to clever thinking by the developer vis. Kiwi themes. I think in time it might win me over when the feature set fits me.

ZEEBE  Has to be the best Twitter app for Mac desktop out there. Love the themes, plus the new site http://www.kiwithemes.com which will not only have elixirgraphics themes, but third party themes as well soon. From following Isaiah (the creator of Kiwi) on Twitter, he will be adding more and more features soon, I know he is already beta testing version 1.1 which has some significant upgrades and Kiwi has been out around a month?! That is dedication. I look forward to the up coming upgrades and will keep this as my standard twitter app, who cares about version 2 of that other app, if it ever comes out.

Run, don't walk and get your Kiwi app now!

Awesome job Isaiah and Adam!!

WALRUSCP  Overall I have been pretty impressed. Kiwi is already miles ahead of Tweetie in terms of features, and I think it will compete nicely Twieetie with Twitterrific as the top Mac-native clients.

My only major criticism is in how some of the features are implemented: it's not always intuitive For example, activating the chat dialogue feature is not overly intuitive. Through experimenting I found you double click a tweet to bring up the conversation. I think there could be a better way (or even an option in the menu or a button) to do the same thing as the double click that is more intuitive.

Otherwise, I love the rules feature and the themes. When the developer gets Twitter Lists working I may buy Kiwi outright and dump Tweetie altogether. Some examples for the CSS action options would be great for those who are unfamiliar but want to do more than marking tweets. A how-to on using the search functioning for creating rules would also be a great tool for newer users to get the most out of this feature. Right now the documentation for search functions is pretty sparse if nonexistent.

For now, Socialite will have to suffice as my Twitter client of choice (not that this is a bad thing). But I will likely dump Tweetie (so much for seeing version 2.0 soon after the iPhone client release) for Kiwi to be my casual Twitter client (for the times I don't want to be overwhelmed by the beast that is Socialite) once Kiwi gets Lists and some changes to the interface to be a little more intuitive.

HIS DUDENESS  Great Mac Twitter client. Easily the best one out of the dozen that I've tried. Seems like there's a dozen, don't it? Just got it today and I'm as impressed with it as I am with Socialite, probably more so because of the themes. I love this app.

TCLOER  I've been using Kiwi since a couple of (closed) betas and already bought my license before 1.0 came out. From my point of view, this is one of the best native Twitter clients for the Mac and well worth a try. The themes from Elixir are beautiful and Isaiah has done a great Snow Leopard programming job.

Kiwi is already my default Mac Twitter app (and has replaced Tweetie). Still waiting for Tweetie 2, though ;-)

MRGANDO  I agree completely with you, just downloaded Kiwi today, and will test it for a week, but it's a really pleasant surprise!, very usable, replaced Tweetie here, ( after trying 100 different things )... Still lacks for drag-drop insert image into comment, but this is really promising, I think I'll buy it.
