Icarus Camera Control... This program allows users of PTP cameras to remote control the camera, i.e. for tethered capture. It is intended as a replacement for vendor supplied camera control software that performs badly on portable computers.
This is open source software, not closed shareware. Easy-to-install bundles are available, or you can retrieve the source and build yourself.
RPSIBEW110 I installed this on my MBP 17" and ran it without a camera and it loaded fine. I attached my Nikon D80 and it promptly shutdown. I tried relaunching but it would just crash. (Version 090425)
ELRAC Tried this out with my Nikon D60, and it does what it says it does. I don't know if I'll ever need this, but it is nice to have the option. (Version 090316)
ANNDRA I have an Intel machine running Leopard. With my camera plugged in it bounces for a while in the dock then falls over. Without it launches fine, and then crashes as soon as the camera is plugged in. I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ20. (Version 090301)
STUDIODAVE56 I see it is now PPC and I tried to get it to work. It loads and runs but I could not get it to connect to my Sony A200 in PTP mode. I don't know if it is the software or the camera. (Version 090224)
STONGEY I tried running it on Tiger and it sees my Nikon D40 but crashes when "grabbing" it. Guess I really do need Leopard... Would love to see this app allow remote capture using the Apple Remote as well. (Version 090224)
