POLYFADE How about killing that bug introduced to Safari 5 whereby I can no longer remove that add-to-bookmarks icon? You use to be able to customize the address bar without it. Not everyone uses Safari to manage their bookmarks. If you you could assign that button to add-to-delicious, then it wouldn't be entirely useless. (Version 5.0.2)

POLYFADE Nevermind, I figured it out. My prefs were corrupt. In case anyone would like to remove the add-to-bookmarks icon… When customizing, you have to add the add-to-bookmarks icon to the toolbar. This will detach it from the address bar. Then, you can remove the add-to-bookmarks icon from the toolbar. Still, the add-to-bookmarks icon, address bar and search field should be all separate elements. Just throwin' my 2 cents out there. (Version 5.0.2)

MONKEYJUNKEY Why is it that Safari is the only browser that a) isn't capable of updating itself with small packages. But instead forces me to download the whole browser for each and every minor update? b) in opposite to all the other browsers (chrome, firefox, opera) requires a restart? Apple, going the windows way? I though "amazing, fast, simple" was the vocabulary you loved. (Version 5.0.2)

Because Safari is made up of Webkit/JavaScript Library which is shared system wide thus it is on the level of a system update and not just a mere browser update as with the case of Firefox and Opera. Btw, bad experiences with delta updates has always forced me to install the full version. (Version 5.0.2)
| Sep 8 2010 |
MONKEYJUNKEY Thanks for the info. Although I never had any issues with minor updates of other browsers. (Version 5.0.2)
| Sep 8 2010 |
JOHN SAWYER CJS If by requiring a "restart", you mean a restart of the Mac, Safari updates don't require that. If you mean "requires a relaunch of Safari", sure--I don't know of too many (if any) apps that you can update while they're running, which don't involve a relaunch after the update is done. I think you'll find that the update process for Firefox includes a relaunch of Firefox. (Version 5.0.2)

NYMPHE John, I think you never updated your Safari. Safari updates need complete restart of the computer, installing it takes almost the same time as security updates and ends with the restart. (Version 5.0.2)
| Sep 8 2010 |
BLOOBIE @John: You've never updated Safari on a Mac then, as it always requires a complete restart of the Mac. As someone else pointed out, Safari updates involve WebKit and other portions of code which are system-wide. (Version 5.0.2)

EMESKAI Complaining that the install requires a small file (less than 40 megs) and that it requires you to restart Safari... those are about the stupidest reasons to rate something 1 star. That's like complaining you have to put the key in the ignition and turn on the car before you can drive it.
| Sep 8 2010 |
MONKEYJUNKEY @Emeskai You really got strong arguments there. I'd rather argue with you based on facts instead of fanboyism. (Version 5.0.2)

When I talk about problems I refer to delta updates put out for Mac OS X but the problems don't appear when I install the combo update. I've also seen delta issues arise on updating Linux when a whole sale download of the package doesn't face such issues. I'd like to trust delta updates but I've found in many places it has been used it ends up causing problems. As for the download size, I'm not particular bothered all that much - if you're on a slow connection it might be problematic but updates are hardly something that come out every 2 days. GGWAU 'Download Now' yields the Snow Leopard version, for Leopard, see 'Related Links'. Apple released Safari 4.1.2 for Mac OS X 10.4 on September 7, 2010. The link still only Safari 4.1 for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.... (Version 5.0.2)

JOHN SAWYER CJS Even the link to Safari 5.0.2 in the "Related Links" section doesn't give you a Leopard/10.5.x version--it goes to a "page not found" page. To get Safari 5.0.2 for Leopard, use Software Update. If you just want to download the Safari installer so you can install it later at your leisure, select Software Update's 'Update > Download Only' option. (Version 5.0.2)

AKMEDIA Another issue that Apple actually claimed is fixed in Safari 5.0.1 is a black bar that hides the text in emails generated by other applications, including iCal's "Event Accepted" emails. That issue is not resolved for me, even after trashing Safari's preferences file. Apple's KB article explaining this issue is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3385 (Version 5.0.1)

ISLANDMACMAN I'm liking this new version - the Extensions are handy. I particularly like the AdBlock and Old Google Image Search. Performance wise, I feel a slight increase in speed. Perhaps because I removed my SIMBL based AdBlocker (if you uninstall this, make sure you also remove the LaunchAgent, because uninstalling doesn't do it). Other than that, no major issues yet. Great job Apple! (Version 5.0.1)

ALBABE Thanx so much for the heads up on the extensions. I wasn't paying attention and hadn't realized that Safari has finally almost caught up to FireFox in that department. (Version 5.0.1)

SLARKIN Unless I missed it, The Safari update does not address this problem described in the 7.26.10 TidBITS: "Safari Reveals Personal Info Via Auto-Fill -- Jeremiah Grossman has discovered and explained a potentially significant security flaw in Safari 4 and 5. In essence, if you have the AutoFill option "Using info from my Address Book card" enabled, a malicious Web site can extract your name, company, city, state, country, and email address without your knowledge. For the moment, we recommend turning off that option in Safari's AutoFill preference pane. Apple told the New York Times (though not Grossman, who reported the bug) that they are "aware of the issue and are working on a fix." This is a security breach! (Version 5.0.1)

BUZZARD Safari 5.0.1 does fix this issue. Refer to: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4276 and http://www.macrumors.com/2010/07/28/safari-5-0-1-and-4-1-1-address-autofill-security-flaw/ Perhaps you should consider googling before you post such issues? (Version 5.0.1)

I noticed that too... In fact, it seems if anyone Reports anything wrong or has a problem at all... their Comment gets De-Smiled. Must be some really odd Psychological affliction. (Version 5.0.1)
