Boinx FotoMagico lets you create professional slideshows from your photos and music with just a few, simple mouse clicks. It sports a very clean and intuitive yet powerful user interface. High image quality, fast performance, and user flexibility were some of the design goals for this application.
Create the most spectacular slideshows:
- Scale, move, rotate, zoom or pan around your images to highlight that part that matters the most.
- Your slides fit together perfectly with the new, gorgeous transitions.
- Provide more meaning with subtle titles here and there.
Perform a breathtaking show:
- Your slideshow uses the best possible resolution of your presentation device.
- Use large displays, HDTV screens and other high resolution devices.
- Even on a VGA projector, your photos will look better with FotoMagico.
Your audience will want to take it home:
- Burn DVDs of your slideshow with iDVD or Roxio Toast.
- Put your slideshow on the new iPod.
- Export in almost any QuickTime format.
Your audience will never fall asleep again.
Version 2.5.2: - Another bugfix for a crashing issue with new iMediaBrowser.
-
Improved playback progress display at the start of playback. Bogus elapsed and remaining times used to be displayed before the first slide was fully loaded.
-
Updated the FotoMagico logo in screensavers.
Mac OS X 10.4 or later
QuickTime 7.1 or later
800 MHz G4 processor or better
Recent graphics card with a lot of VRAM, 64MB or more.
Note: Computers with an ATI Radeon 7500 (M6 and RV200) graphics card can not export movies. Read more about this issue.
For optimum results you should have a G5, Intel Core Duo processor or better and a graphics card with at least 128MB.

TOM DIBBLE This is very good software, for what it does. You just have to understand that it takes some significant liberties with your presentation with apparently no way around them. The lack of a user forum on the Boinx website just compounds these issues. 1. Any slideshow you create, so far as I can tell, has an ad for FotoMagico on the bottom. I am sorry, but I don't find this acceptable in a $100+ tool! 2. So far as I can tell (because it is hard to tell which "version" is in use after you fight your way through the startup license screen), Aperture integration is just using the Media Browser, which means you will only get the quality of your JPG previews, and you can not filter the photos list (for instance, to just include the starred picks of a folder). This makes that integration next to useless, IMHO, pushing back to an export-from-Aperture workflow, and thus completely obviating the need for the "Pro" version. I suspect I'm missing something, but that's the best I can find. 3. Audio matching leaves much to be desired. On my chosen audio track I could only put markers down once per measure (it's a relatively fast but not zipping fast guitar background), which means all my slids "timed" to the audio will go predictably on the measure downbeats. BORING! In my Final Cut workflow, I put markers on every riff of the tune, along with at least the 1 and 3 beats. FotoMagico apparently has logic to "collapse" markers placed too closely to each other, because "obviously" we must be trying to move the existing one instead of laying down a new one! 4. Still on the audio matching side: having to click the mouse button is a much less precise action (because mice tend to move if you close your eyes and "get into" the beat) than hitting a key, yet I can find no mention of a keyboard shortcut for setting an audio marker. 5. Adjusting or deleting markers is horribly clunky. I have an entire screen to do this task: use it instead of relegating me to a 1" square on the far right! 6. The focus here is on live presentations (that's Boinx's niche). As they say in the FAQ, they make several compromises in the name of slick presentations (you can't tie photos to specific audio markers, for instance, and the timings you see when playing on your computer may be radically different from the timings seen on an output DVD). I'm sure this would be a great boon if I was giving a presentation with an audio-backed slideshow as my background (although I can't imagine watching such a thing, much less giving one), but my "bread and butter" is DVD output. I was hoping for better control of the process, not two-level-detached remote controls which might work most of the time. 7. Finally, the demo restriction makes a demo next to useless. I was able to find these flaws, but not able to really delve into the application to see if there was a workaround in place, before the time limit expired. For instance, aside from the FAQ entry, I have no idea how bad the timings to DVD issue really is. Boinx is shooting itself in the foot here, hoping to avoid piracy. Hint: if that stupid lower-third FotoMagico advertisement goes away after registration, that's all the push the average user will need to register the software! Anyway, in the end, I'm heading back to Final Cut to do my next slideshow. It's a shame, because FM is REALLY close to being able to satisfy my needs here. I'm just not willing to spend $10-50 (again, I'm not sure that extra $40 does a damned thing for me) just to have an "almost" solution. I'd pay twice that for a really working solution, hands down. In the end, though, I care more about getting my output "right" than getting it done quickly (and if I just cared about "quick" there are plenty of cheaper tools that allow for unmatched audio and such). I give it a 3/5 for features and value. Ease of use is good and stability is good so long as the demo period lasted (but the period is so short I can't honestly say stability is really solid). BACKPACKER Thanks for restoring the proper exporting of created screensavers for Leopard PPC. (Version 2.5.2)

BACKPACKER Ever since the v2.5 betas, attempts to load/invoke exported screensavers result in this error: "Can't load screensaver. Uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[FMColor cancelAllDelayedSelectors]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1f826230" This error message is a combination of the error-popup and the crash-report that is generated due to the error invariably crashing System Preferences. This happens whether the created screensaver is exported directly into the ScreenSavers folder (root or Home) or installed by double-clicking from elsewhere on the drive. 10.5.4 on PPC (G4 1.33-dual), ATI Radeon 9600 256MB VRAM. THE DATADUDE I've been producing professional-quality slideshows for the past four years using FotoMagico. It's not perfect (I'd actually rate it a 4.5/5.0) but it is certainly the best software tool available for producing highest-quality audio-synched slideshows on your Mac (believe me, I've tried ALL the competitors). I really push this app to the limit and tweak everything up the whazoo (which is one of the things I love about FM - tweak away!), and it has never disappointed me. Every time I show off one of my FM slideshows (Bar Mitzvahs, weddings, family gatherings, etc.) people come up to me and want to know what I used to create such polished works. When I have found bugs or instabilities, the developers have been very responsive. With version 2.1 of this software I have not experienced the kinds of problems noted by others on this forum. TOM DIBBLE Regarding audio-synching: it seems FotoMagico only allows audio marking in the "inspector"? Is this really the best tool out there? I've tried marking beats on a song, and unless they are a second or more apart, FotoMagico just keeps updating the one marker. Plus, I have to click the mouse button instead of press a keyboard key to set a mark while it is playing, and clearing out mistaken marks is a PITA. I was told that FM would save me a lot of effort in my Final Cut workflow, but if I can't mark out audio beats reliably and quickly, it seems useless. Obviously I'm not going to USE every downbeat in the presentation, but I want to mark them all once then decide which ones to use while laying out the pictures! As it stands, I have an old 1.x license, and I don't see myself spending another $10-50 on this software until it gets better audio support. It's really disheartening to hear that this is the best tool out there, as deficient as it is! (Version 2.5.2)

PHOTOGRL3333 how do you adjust audio in fotomagic? Can you make a song shorter than it is to fit???? (Version 2.5.2)

ONEUPPER I use this software quite a bit and like it. One issue that is driving me crazy is the lack of support for special characters used in Spanish, French and German (for example). If you need to do a slideshow in something other than English, you're in trouble. This is surprising, coming from a European software developer. (Version 2.1.5)

HAUSLENDALE This just keeps getting worst with every new update. Instead of using customers for your testers why not test your builds yourself Mr. Developer.... Same issues with this release and the app is even more bugged. Time to get a refund and look for some reliable software. I met every requirement and still this app is so bugged I do not even want to run it on any of my Macs anymore.. (Version 2.1.2b4)

HAUSLENDALE The one thing that is not working with this release is that the export screensaver funtion is so bugged. All exported screensavers on my end turn the Monitor black and I must force restart my computer to undo this. Chipset Model: ATY,RadeonX1600 and tested with MacPro Intel custom built maxed out!!
