iFinance overview

iFinance allows you to keep track of your income and spending - from your lunchbreak coffee to your new car - in the most convenient and fastest way. Clearly arranged transaction lists of all your financial resources from your debit account to your credit card and cash show you exactly what you spend your money on - the first and most crucial step in getting your finances on-track. iFinance lets you know how your assets perform. Have it analyze your finances and the available charts and reports will show you instantly what your biggest spending items are and where there's potential for savings. The convenient budget feature helps you review your financial goals. How much money can you spend today if you want to stay within your budget? How much more income is needed to achieve your monthly goal?

It supports several different banking file formats, such as CSV, QIF, OFX, and mt940. Import your data by using one of these formats or retrieve your bank account transactions via OFX direct-connect. Please note that not all banks support OFX direct-connect. Please check out our free demo version if you are unsure about your bank’s online features.

Keep iFinance up-to-date on all your devices using iCloud or the enhanced WiFi-Sync feature. Once you establish a WiFi connection, Sync takes all new entries that you made on your Mac at the office or on your iPhone while you were on-the-go and merges them into a single, up-to-date version. WiFi Sync allows multiple users to manage the same database. This may become useful, for example, if you are in charge of a club's or association's finances, or if you manage a bank account with another person.

There's something wrong with color-scheme in v 4.5.12(120). Half of the app is in sort of 'dark mode' half is in light. But dark mode has dark background and dark font, so it is quite messy.

After reviewing the Apps website I can only conclude that comprehensive it is not: No Bill Pay, no examples of investments; limited reporting; no mention of tax tools. I can only find a single line on the entire website, that describes the App that even mentions investments of which no examples are shown. Checking out the manual reveals it does do basic stock management but no mention of splits or options for investments. No mention of Bonds. Only data export format is editable CSV. Support is by email only with no mention of a response time goal. Very limited knowledge base. While this product may do an excellent job of basic finance management, it does not seem, in my opinion, to be able to fulfill the needs of those interested in serious financial management or whose finances are complex in nature. However there is some less obvious capability that can be had by creative usage of some of its generalized tools such as flags and tags. But to call it comprenhensive when compared to its competitors like Quicken, Moneydance or Banktivity seems to be a bit of an overstatement based on a summary review of its website and documentation. This is listed as a comment as I feel that reviews should only be submitted from users that actually download and run the App, which I have not. However when compared to other products in this category, given my finances are reasonably complex, I personally would not want to waste my time with it, especially at its price point, when compared to some of its competition that are more comprehensive but can be slightly more expensive.

I love that colorful charts, the app is designed to be very informative about user finance. It helps me to track my expenditures and get good balance. It's value much more than those $40.

Have been using Version 3 as my accounting app of choice, and now version 4 has arrived. A demo version is available but you have to purchase the full app from the App Store.
After importing my data to V4, the presentation assumes that you are as blind as a bat, with gaudy oversize text. Rummage in the preferences to set the presentation text to small, perfectly adequate even for my failing eye sight.
Select transactions and the first thing you notice is the lack of a running balance. That must be a first - never used a finance app that can't give you a running total. With transactions in date order, precious vertical space is wasted by repeating the date in full in a separate row, and now we find the balances for the start and end of that day. To my eyes this just makes the screen look cluttered, especially if you have many transaction with only one transaction per day.
The previous credit.debit columns have been merged in to one 'amount' column.
The category column included lots of coloured circles, presumably to help visualise the categories, but with a large number of categories this is totally useless.
No doubt a lot of the visual changes are due to a dumbing down to allow the app to be cross compatible with iPads/iphones etc.
So sorry - only 1 star from me at the moment.

This is a great Quicken alternative. I'm a Quicken user from the DOS days, ah.. what memories! This package is 100% for Mac and has a nice iPad version too. No surplus eye candy or monstrous menus, just functional and works well. I did buy on sale for half price, as there are so many dodgy looking softwares with less than overwhelming reviews. I hope my review helps. I do not use bank auto download or anything so sophisticated, this is a point of purchase entry for me in the iPad and later sync with the Mac. Perfect harmony. Now, where did that other $22 go to ? mmmm....

Unfortunately like all the other Qucken replacements, other than MoneyDance, Bill Pay must be done by Snail Mail or online with the financial institution instead of within the program.

Unfortunately, the lastest version, 3.3.2, had issues with graphs and reports: they didn't appear. But the support team help me to correct that bug efficiently. 3 days for correct the bug with 3 members of the support team. Efficient work! Thank.

I am using this app for a while now. I is ok, but the thing I am missing the most is a separate view for repeating transactions. Now they are just a part of each account, but a single view for them all would be nice. For example if I would like to easily check when my next payment is.

Gave a try to almost all of them. iFinance did not win. Do not like the design of the UI nor the lack of useful and advanced features when it comes to manage multiple accounts, to integrate with multiple banks and services and to make the day-to-day operations a snap. As per my experience, the best is TCF (Tous Comptes Faits), for French Mac/PC users only... unfortunately.

Interesting product in between itunes/bento-like softwares (graphically popping) and something more old-style. I'm not a counselor or an accountant: keeping home finance, and maybe starting a little business in the near future. Sharing few points, affecting the user 'experience', as they say: a) keyboard shortcuts are lacking (I'm a keyboard guy); b) smart folders are lacking; c) I'd prefer a cleaner Viewer ( a bit too colors, I mean, not tremendous as in other applications, but ...) with clearer balance and values (how is the logic behind the day balance listing?). In the software I'm using now there's no budgeting, no stocks (but i'm not interested in that), reports lack real diagrams (even simple diagrams), but clean, fast data input and smart folders for a little analytcs and exporting to Numbers. If i could put it all in one apt package (i.e iFinance), I'd be more than happy! The bottom line: keep an eye on iFinance. If it keeps evolving in the good direction, just have a closer look (and the price is right). 3 Stars going to 4

Been using this for years - interesting to see the development. Budgeting charts nice & informative, reports quite good for categories, importing works within limitations and sometimes obscurely, but still some other issues: The 3D charts are glossy and fancy, but too much so with 'lines', which look like spaghetti & are hard to decipher. The 2D equivalent is really basic. Something in between, Numbers style, would be better, imo. Multi-currency works well for the left panel overview. You can change the main currency in the prefs (nice if there was a more accessible way & even a choice to list more than one at the top summary) but you still can't combine currencies for chart readouts, which most other programs do. Baffling. If you want to redefine several beneficiaries you'd normally select them all and do so, but that option disappears leaving you to do them one by one. Again, frustrating. I'm using this mostly so far for account and budget overviews. Looking forward to more flexibility.

I really like the looks of this program, but the tab order for new transactions drove me nuts. The first item to be entered should be the name of the transaction. Also, there seems to be too many fields in the new transaction form .. would be nice to be able to turn off "beneficiary" option. Also, category options to select with keyboard via typing would be quicker for keyboard entry. Takes extra time to have to type and then move to the mouse to select a category, and then back to typing.

Well, I've been trying for some time to get this to import my .qif file. It only downloads the categories, not the transaction. Since I am just evaluating financial software (I currently use-and quite like-Quicken, which Intuit seems to be phasing out) I do not want to have to contact the developer to see how things work. Other packages I've tested had absolutely no problem importing my .qif files. I'm moving on to something else.

Why is there a colour gradient in the lower (right) section(s) of this app? Sure, gradients look nice but I think if used like this in an app the usability is impaired. It gets more difficult to distinguish the foreground elements from the background.
