Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use ssh public keys?
Yes—leave the password field blank, and if you have a key already set up it will authenticate you. If you need help setting up public keys check here. It's pretty easy.
Can you make ExpanDrive display dot-hidden files?
We get a lot of requests for the ability to display dot-hidden files in the Finder, and it’s something we’d love to be able to do. The problem is that it’s the Finder, and not ExpanDrive, who decides what files are visible in the Finder. This isn’t an issue for other sftp clients, because they own their file display window. ExpanDrive, on the other hand, is only relaying to the Finder what files are in a directory. We could try to hack around the problem. For example, we could tell the Finder that ".someFile" is actually "_someFile", and translate back and forth when needed. But obviously that solution isn’t perfect either.
Why did all of my files disappear? Why is there a single file called "Error Code X..."
Usually this means that your connection has momentarily gone down. Not to worry, as soon as you reestablish a connection to the internet, ExpanDrive will automatically reconnect, and your files will reappear. If they don't appear immediately, just click ExpanDrive in Finder.
Can I use time machine in conjunction with ExpanDrive?
No, not yet. We're working on it. We use Time Machine ourselves, and we hope to be using it over ExpanDrive soon.
Why does Finder close when I eject ExpanDrive?
This seems to be a feature in Finder on OS X 10.5 “Leopard”; when you eject a drive while it is selected in Finder, that particular Finder window closes. This is true of any drive, including the CD/DVD drive. To avoid this, simple click on something outside of ExpanDrive in the Finder window before ejecting ExpanDrive.
